Local Area

The immediate area offers seclusion and privacy. Woodlands Villa adjoins forest land where many varieties of flora and fauna can be seen. The area is perfect for photographers, artists, writers and nature lovers alike. A short walk through the shady forest gives stunning views over the Taurus mountains.

Uzumlu

Uzumlu VillageThe village of Uzumlu is a traditional old Turkish village approximately 18 km from the main town of Fethiye. Yesil Uzumlu (meaning ‘green grapes’) is said to produce the best types of grapes in the area and locally made wine is sold in the village wine house. Local shops sell most provisions with the exception of fresh meat and a market selling locally grown produce is held in the market square on a Friday. There are some small local restaurants (lokantas) in the village but further restaurants can be found on the main Fethiye road and in the town of Fethiye itself. Ladies in the village can be seen weaving ’Dastar’ - a material made from cotton and silk which is sold throughout the country.

Cadianda

The ancient city of Cadianda.Approximately 2-3 km from Woodlands Villa is the ancient city of Cadianda. Cadianda is known as a rich Lycian settlement and the history of the city surrounded by the Cyclop walls dates back to the 5th Century BC. Set high in the mountains, the journey up to the site of Cadianda gives panoramic views over the valley of Uzumlu. As you follow the footpath around the site you will see clearly across the valley to the bay of Fethiye and beyond.

Fethiye

Fethiye itself is a thriving tourist town surrounding the bay to which it has given its name. It has a wealth of shops, restaurants and bars as well as a daily fresh fish market and fruit/vegetablemarket in the centreof the town. The Paspatur, known as the Old City, is one of the most colourful shopping and entertainment areas of the town. Here you will find a traditional Turkish Baths (Hamam), many restaurants and bars, and various shops selling souvenirs and local goods. On the outskirts of the town an open market is held on a Tuesday, selling a wide range of local goods including clothes, shoes and linens etc as well as local produce and spices. A fruit and vegetable market is also held on a Friday where locals gather to sell their freshly grown produce.

Best buys

Best buys in the area include rugs and carpets, textiles and gold and silver jewellery. A promenade runs around the harbour and bay where you can watch the turtles feed from the local fishing boats. Boat trips and cruises, water taxis and a regular ferry boat to the island of Rhodes run from the harbour area.

The Coast.

Calis beach, which is at a distance of approximately 5km from the centre of Fethiye and only some 15-20 minutes drive from Woodlands Villa, is one of the natural breeding grounds of the caretta caretta marine turtle in the area. It is approximately 4km long and is a clean, sandy beach with areas of sun beds and umbrellas. Many restaurants, shops and hotels line the coast and regular dolmus boats and buses run to and from Fethiye.

Oludeniz

beautiful beach of OluDenizApproximately 14km from Fethiye lies the famous Oludeniz Lagoon and Belcekiz Beach which can easily be reached by dolmus from the centre of Fethiye. Babadag mountain which rises immediately behind Oludeniz is a recognised area for paragliding and is deemed to be one of the best flying points in the world for this sport.

There are also many other bays and beaches which are reachable either by car or by boat.
